Campus Compact to Continue The Washington Center’s Higher Education Civic Engagement Awards Tradition

Campus Compact will issue the next call for nominations in Fall 2019

Washington, D.C. — The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) and Campus Compact are pleased to announce the Higher Education Civic Engagement Awards will continue under the stewardship of Campus Compact. The awards will now recognize the efforts of two-year and four-year institutions committed to advancing the public purposes of higher education through teaching, research, and other institutional actions. Campus Compact will launch a new call for nominations beginning Fall 2019.

“Over the years, it has been an immense honor to recognize so many leaders from all around the country who have done so much to advance the work of civic engagement,” said Chris Norton, president, The Washington Center. “We look forward to learning about the work of many more in the years to come as Campus Compact continues this tradition.”

The Washington Center initiated the Higher Education Civic Engagement Awards in 2009 as a way to honor colleges and universities advancing civic goals all across the country. Since then, 47 colleges and universities have been recognized with the award by TWC.

We are delighted to continue this important recognition of institutional civic engagement.

The Washington Center has been committed to civic engagement since its founding, and civic learning is a fundamental part of TWC’s career readiness curriculum as it helps students navigate their way from college to professional career.

“We are delighted to continue this important recognition of institutional civic engagement,” said Andrew Seligsohn, president, Campus Compact. “The Washington Center’s leadership was instrumental in drawing attention to the role of higher education in our democracy.”

Campus Compact will present the next Higher Education Civic Engagement Awards at its national conference, Compact20: The Promise of Full Participation: Democracy, Opportunity, Voice, March 29 - April 1, 2020 in Seattle, Washington.
