Work Experience Do... • Include the organization or company's name, location, and position title with each experience. • Ensure you have listed the appropriate Month Year – Month Year that you have worked at that opportunity. If it is a current opportunity, you can list the dates as Month Year – Current. • List your most recent employment experience first, then in reverse chronological order. In other words, your newest or most recent employment experience will be at the top of the section, and your older roles will be towards the bottom of the section. • Begin your description with an action verb. • Use the present tense when describing current duties and use the past tense when describing previous duties. • Use 3-5 bullet points per experience to describe specific tasks completed with complete descriptions. – Utilize the following formula to assist with writing your descriptions: Action Verb + Who/ What the Action Served + Another Action Verb + the Result. See below for an example. • Be as detailed as possible when writing descriptions for each experience. – For example, the bullet points below describe exact tasks completed and what was done to complete them. It also highlights specific experiences, team collaboration, and time management. – Collaborate with fellow staff to provide complete table service including completing food orders. – Run orders to tables to ensure quality customer service. – Clear and set tables for quick turnaround to seat guests. • Use quantifiable descriptions demonstrating impact via metric. – For example, "Advertised club's events weekly on social media to increase following by 10% after two months." • Highlight your most relevant experiences towards your desired industry for your future internship. Do Not... • Write your experience descriptions in paragraph format. • Mention "I" or "we" in your experience bullet points. • Use passive phrases such as "responsible for...". • Have only one or two bullet point descriptions per experience. • Utilize the same action verb twice in the same experience. For example, this means that "created" should not be the beginning of two bullet point descriptions for the same experience. Other Experience (if applicable to you) Do... • Include sections that are recent and relevant to experiences you'd like to showcase, this includes Student Leadership, Campus Involvement, or Research Experience. • Ensure that the formatting is the same as the work experience section. You will include the organization or club's name, location, and position title with each experience. • Highlight and include any positions held within a student organization and the impact that you've had in that role and include robust descriptions (see Work Experience section).
