I could not have received the same type of experience or learning from an internship in Colorado that I was able to get with e Washington Center. It opened my eyes to what a job in a federal government-based organization would be like and how D.C. really operates. It's great experience to have on my resume. Morgan Scheinen '18, Colorado State University 2018 Annual Report 21 Additional Internship Programs Cordova & Fernós Internship Program Thirteen students from Puerto Rico participated in this program focused on building a stronger future for their home island. They learned about the legislative process, inner-workings of government and policy outcomes. This program was fully funded by the Puerto Rican legislature and corporate partnerships. Federal Diversity Internship Initiative The federal government extended its partnership with TWC to further develop a pipeline of diverse, qualified talent. TWC recruited over 100 total participants for 10 separate government entities across 28 states, including Washington, D.C. This initiative continues to help federal agencies achieve a workforce reflective of the population served. This program was fully funded through partnerships with the Centers for Disease Control, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Department of State, Department of Treasury, Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal Aviation Administration, General Service Administration, International Trade Administration, National Credit Union Administration and the United States Census Bureau. Global Competencies Internship Program TWC welcomed 56 postgraduate scholars from eight countries to gain in-demand experience for the competitive international labor force. This program addresses the need for real-world experience to increase employability in home countries while expanding their networks and opportunities for upward advancement. This program was primarily funded by the Advanced Leadership Foundation and American Councils for International Education. Governor's Internship Program Four states in Mexico sent 70 students to participate in this program developed to strengthen Mexico-United States relations through exposure to public policy, civic engagement and governance issues while they interned around Washington, D.C. This program was fully funded through our partnerships with the Mexican state governments of Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon and Estado de Mexico. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Internship Program Designed to help STEM majors develop their research skills, this immersive internship program led by the NRL hosted 47 students from historically black colleges and universities, minority-serving institutions and tribal colleges and universities. This program was fully funded through a partnership with NRL. Sonora 100 Internship Program This competitive internship program welcomed 50 students from the state of Sonora, Mexico. TWC and Sonora developed the program to assist students engaging civil society as a vehicle for social change. This program was fully funded by the Secretary of Education for the State of Sonora (Mexico). Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG) This program is a critical component of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) employee recruitment efforts. During the summer, 91 students, representing a diversity of backgrounds, participated in the program in Washington, D.C. and at regional locations. This program was fully funded through a partnership with DOT.
