From attending hearings on Capitol Hill to events for my internship site, Public Citizen, I have worked on projects that I could not have worked on anywhere else. My experience at e Washington Center has given me a clear sense of where I want my career to go and what really makes me tick professionally. It has also given me the tools I need to shape that future, through countless networking events, professional development classes and one on one guidance from TWC staff. Griet Van Acker '19, Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel, Belgium, Interned at Public Citizen Support Network TWC has over 100 professional staff on hand to guide students throughout the experience, including: • Pre-Arrival Advisor: Communicates with students prior to their arrival, oversees placement process. • Program Advisor: Oversees students' experience in TWC programming activities, helps students contextualize their work and prepare them for career success. • Internship Site Supervisor: Oversees the students' professional work, provides tasks and direction, and evaluates performance. • Student Services Staff: Organize cultural and networking events, and assist students with disabilities. • Alumni in Residence: Support students in TWC housing facilities and arrange social activities. • J-1 Visa Specialist: provides the necessary forms and supports students throughout the visa process. The Global Competencies Program is designed for highly-qualified seniors, recent college graduates and students currently enrolled in graduate school. Like AIP, the Global Competencies program includes a substantive internship Monday-Thursday. However, it features additional program components designed to help students launch their careers. These include: • Global and Executive Competencies Sessions: Meets every Friday and consists of training on core professional competencies. • Mentorship and Networking Opportunities: Throughout the semester, students receive one-on-one mentoring to further build on their newly developed professional skills and strategize about their career paths.
