5 The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars Development Day #3 Session Name Description Type Negotiating Your Salary & Benefits In this session, participants will learn how to effectively negotiate their salary. Participants will learn the four steps to negotiation and have the opportunity to practice utilizing those skills in a variety of practical exercises. Required Managing Up Through this session, participants will gain an understanding of the factors that impact the supervisor/supervisee relationship, insight into their relationship with their supervisor, and an awareness in how they can practice self-advocacy and help manage their supervisor successfully. Required Resumes In this session, participants will learn how to craft a compelling resume that effectively highlights their skills, experiences, and accomplishments. The session will cover best practices for formatting, tailoring resumes to specific opportunities, and articulating transferable skills from academic, volunteer, work, and internship experiences, including their TWC internship and professional development participation. Participants will walk away with practical tips for creating polished, employer-ready resumes and will have the opportunity to receive personalized feedback. Elective Option Interview Skills Participants in this session will learn how to effectively demonstrate their interests, experience, and skills during the interview process. They will receive insight into structuring interview responses, general etiquette standards for interviewing, and the opportunity to practice what they've learned. Elective Option Preparing for Your Financial Future During this session, students will increase their knowledge and understanding of personal budgeting, workplace benefits, retirement savings, investing, and other financial concepts to empower them to prepare for their financial future. Required Landing Your First Job Learn how to begin the job search, effectively search, and successfully land your first job! Elective Option
