Career Readiness Competencies At their internship, students will be assessed by their internship supervisor (and colleagues) on their proficiency based on a set of competencies created by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). These competencies were developed by leaders in higher education and the workforce to define the benchmarks skills recent college graduates and entry-level employees need to exhibit in order to aptly transition to the workforce. These competencies will also be referenced during conversations with between students and their Program Manager, on Friday Development Days, and in assignments throughout the semester. The NACE Career Readiness Competencies are: • Career & Self-Development • Communication • Critical Thinking • Equity & Inclusion • Leadership • Professionalism • Teamwork • Technology Career Readiness Program Learning Activities Learning activities will take place across multiple group and personalized settings. Specifically, students will have the opportunity to participate in numerous challenging, engaging, and relevant professional workshops throughout the semester during Friday Development Days. Additionally, students can engage in one-on-one conversations with their Program Managers to support them through their internship experience, granting them the tools and resources needed to meet goals and plan for the future. Canvas will be the primary platform for communications about the schedule of events, any preparation that may be required, and for submission of completed assignments. Career Readiness Programming Friday Development Days Throughout the fall, each TWC student will participate in three Friday Development Days. These intensive, all-day workshops will support the development of essential professional tools, competencies, skills, and strategies needed to effectively enter the workforce. These sessions will cover topics such as critical thinking, salary negotiation techniques, professional communication, federal resumes, and much more.
