The Washington Center is a nonprofit solutions provider, delivering immersive skills and career-based experiential learning programs to prepare early career talent with the skills employers in states across the country most desire. Our work is grounded in data and adaptability with a mission to create flexible, immersive pathways that enhance the talent pipeline and build more competitive and inclusive workplaces and communities. Support career-connected skills employers desire, like critical thinking, communications and data analysis, with an emphasis on growth industries like digital tech and cybersecurity. Overcome the Skills Gap and Better Prepare Talent for in-demand Jobs. A report by Gallup and Strada Education Network found that only 11% of business leaders strongly agreed that recent college graduates have the skills their businesses need. Adapt to Changing Learner and Workforce Demographics The student body has changed with competing responsibilities via jobs or caregiving, and it is even trending older with an average age of 28 in community colleges. Help Eliminate Barriers to Skills Training and Career Progression Funded, flexible, hybrid, short-term programs – such as "bootcamp" weekends for skills training and week-long seminars – provide different modalities of time commitment and cost Scaling Short-Term Solutions to Break the Traditional Structures In 2023, TWC successfully delivered innovative short-term pilot programs, in addition to weeklong seminars and semester/summer internship program. In 2024, we have expanded these short-term programs with a focus on direct career-relevant skills and experiences.
