This session offers an insider's perspective on how the NSA collects, analyzes, and leverages intelligence to support national defense objectives. Attendees will gain insights into the agency's mission, its contributions to global security, and the challenges it faces in an evolving threat landscape. Speaker: Andrew Chisholm, Cryptologic Engagement Officer, Engagement Division, U.S. Department of Defense 10:00am – 10:45am Whistleblowers and Limits on Government Power The role of whistleblowers in shaping the boundaries of government power remains a critical element of democratic oversight, especially within the realm of national security. Whistleblowers who expose misconduct, overreach, or violations of ethical and lega standards confront a system often built on secrecy and limited transparency. Their actions raise essential questions about accountability, the rule of law, and the mechanisms in place to protect both national interests and individual rights. This discussion considers the legal frameworks designed to shield whistleblowers, the personal and professional risks they endure and the lasting impact their disclosures have on public trust and governmental reform. It wil feature a case study of the "Snowden Leak" as an example of a challenging ethical and moral media dilemma. The talk will also look at the role fo the media in educating people about what decisions are made and the ethical boundaries of them (e.g., drone strikes). In this session, how the U.S. uses financial pressure to confront adversaries, disrupt illicit networks and shape global behavior will be examined. Emerging risks and the evolving battlefield of financial warfare in a digital age will also be explored. Speaker: Juan C.
