Career Readiness – Friday Development Days Throughout each semester, there will be three Fridays dedicated to building and honing the skills that participants will need to be successful in the workforce and their future careers. Attendance and participation at each development day is required. Each day will have set sessions in the morning, with the afternoon providing the opportunity for students to choose 2 of the offered workshops that most align with their needs and interests. Friday Development Day #1 Session Name Description Type Professional Communication During this session, participants will focus on different aspects and approaches to professional communication. Participants will receive information on communication etiquette and practice applying that knowledge to real-life workplace scenarios. Required Critical Thinking This session will offer participants an in-depth exploration of critical thinking. Participants will learn about different types of thinking, developing intellectual courage, building mental agility, and addressing biases through a variety of hands-on activities. Required Budgeting for Your Semester Participants in this session will learn foundational knowledge of personal financial management. In addition, participants will learn the value of being financially literate and ways to continue developing their skills in this field, while walking away with tangible tips for budgeting appropriately for their semester. Elective Option Working as Part of a Team As one of the fundamental aspects of productive workplaces, this session will focus on how participants can contribute to building effective and collaborative teams. Participants will learn strategies for teamwork in virtual, hybrid, and in-person settings. Elective Option Time Management During this session, participants will evaluate their current time utilization habits, examine common challenges to effectively managing their time, and receive implementable tips and resources to improve their own time management.
