The Washington Center Selects Emerging Leader for Board of Trustees

Yisel Cabrera of Ford Motor Company Fund brings philanthropic and community relations expertise to governing body

Washington D.C. — The newest board member for The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), Yisel Cabrera, is a 2004 alumna of its internship programming. Ms. Cabrera adds firsthand knowledge of the TWC experience, along with an extensive background in corporate and nonprofit leadership, to the board of trustees. She joins four fellow TWC alumni on a board consisting of prominent representatives of the higher education, business and governmental communities.

Ms. Cabrera is currently community relations manager with the Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. In her role, she is responsible for developing and directing philanthropic, charitable and community relations programs that meet the goals of the Ford Motor Company Fund and Ford Motor Company, at large. She also oversees projects related to Ford’s commitment to the enhancement of life in the communities the company serves.

As a proud alumna, I am overjoyed to join The Washington Center’s Board of Trustees. My internship experience was key to my career success. I look forward to helping more students achieve their academic and career goals.

“As a proud alumna, I am overjoyed to join The Washington Center’s Board of Trustees,” said Yisel Cabrera, community relations manager, Ford Motor Company Fund. “My internship experience was key to my career success. I look forward to helping more students achieve their academic and career goals.”

Over the course of her career, Ms. Cabrera has also held positions with St. Thomas University in Florida, Burger King Corp., and the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute. She has worked to secure support and growth at each stop, and has a proven record of success. Ms. Cabrera is a native of Cuba and is passionate about advancing and empowering women and girls around the world.

“The Washington Center and the board are fortunate to welcome an alumna with such an extensive background in higher education, philanthropy and community engagement,” said Chris Norton, president, The Washington Center. “Yisel has demonstrated, again and again, that she has an exceptional capability to connect with individuals and communities and accomplish whatever goal that has been set. I am particularly excited to see what she achieves with our alumni community during our 45th anniversary year.”

Ms. Cabrera will participate in TWC’s spring board meeting in April. In addition to typical duties, the board has an important role for 2020. This year marks TWC’s 45th anniversary and the celebration will run throughout the year, which kicked off with February’s birthday party. As with all TWC activities, the board of trustees plays an integral role in leading the organization and festivities.
