Political science major Josephine Ennin interned at Political Awareness, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing political engagement and education. The experience solidified her commitment to a career in political science and her advocacy for informed and active citizenship.
Where did you intern and what are some of your responsibilities there?
Political Awareness LLC is a super PAC dedicated to promoting political awareness and engagement among the public. My responsibilities included writing political articles, assisting with logistics for community outreach events, conducting research and monitoring local, state, and federal governmental issues that impact political awareness.
Tell us about a project you worked on during your internship that was your favorite, the most challenging, rewarding, or exciting.
My favorite project was writing an article on voter rolls and voter purging. Initially unfamiliar with the concept, I conducted extensive research from various sources, organizing my thoughts and ideas to create an informative and impactful article.

How have you expanded your professional network during your time with TWC?
During my remote internship, I had the flexibility to work from various locations and meet people from different industries. This experience has been enlightening, expanding my classroom and cultural understanding. Participating in TWC networking events has also significantly broadened my connections, particularly on LinkedIn, where I received valuable career-related advice and mentorship.
How has this experience impacted your career goals?
My experience has helped me refine my thoughts, interests and passions, guiding me towards a clearer career path. I’ve learned that career paths can change, and that's okay, as long as you are passionate and give your best effort. This experience has shown me that there are ample opportunities out there, and I have the ability to make informed choices.
What advice do you have for students considering an internship with TWC?
Take the opportunity and be intentional about making it count. Apply early, be confident, utilize the resources provided, network actively and be open to personal and professional growth.
How did financial support via scholarships help expand your opportunity via TWC and career exploration?
I received the Maryland State Scholarship, Washington Center Housing Scholarship, and Early Bird Scholarship. It’s a blessing to have received this support which made my move to D.C. seamless and allowed me to fully engage in the opportunities offered by TWC.
