This year’s National Security Program cohort experienced what many professionals spend years pursuing: unfiltered access to the minds and institutions shaping America’s defense strategy. From classified briefings to networking with future colleagues, the program didn’t just inform, it ignited careers. Today Fidelia Koval reflects on the moments that changed her outlook and why this immersion was a game-changer.

One of the most rewarding elements was the opportunity to engage directly with professionals working in national security fields. Hearing from experienced speakers who shared real-world insights, challenges, and lessons gave me a deeper understanding of what it takes to protect our nation. Additionally, connecting with like-minded peers who are passionate about public service and leadership was incredibly inspiring and affirming.

How will you apply this experience into the next steps of your professional career?

This experience has solidified my desire to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful impact, particularly in areas related to law, public policy, and social justice. The knowledge I gained about current national security issues will help shape my future academic goals, including my plans to attend law school. It also taught me the value of leadership, adaptability, and critical thinking, skills I will carry forward into every step of my professional journey.

Would you recommend this program to others?

Yes, I would absolutely recommend this program. It offers a rare and invaluable platform to learn from top-level professionals, explore career paths, and expand your network. It’s not just educational, it’s transformational. For any student passionate about public service, policy, or leadership, this program is a game-changer.

Stand out moment for you Fidelia?

One moment that stood out was hearing from Ms. Kemba Walden. Seeing a strong, knowledgeable woman in such a powerful role was incredibly empowering. Her story and advice reignited my belief in dreaming big and never giving up. I also appreciated the balance between site visits and panel discussions, it created a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
