WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) is proud to partner with the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), the Washington D.C. Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs, the United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. VETS) and Friendship Place, for Operation Bedroll — a donation drive collecting household goods for homeless veterans in Washington, D.C.
The drive was organized by Ron Aderhold and MaryIlene Schiller, participants in TWC’s Veterans Employment Trajectory (VET) Initiative who are interning at NCHV. After witnessing first hand the high demand for basic household items in U.S. VETS transitional housing facilities, Aderhold and Schiller enlisted the help of nearly 360 student interns who reside at TWC’s Residential and Academic Facility to donate bed sheets, comforters, pillows and towels at the culmination of their summer term. The program will continue after the summer term.
I saw an opportunity for NCHV and The Washington Center to form a partnership that would help over a thousand homeless veterans waiting to transition into permanent housing each year.

The President of TWC, Chris Norton said: “This is a wonderful example of how The Washington Center is committed to supporting both the D.C. veteran community and our VET Initiative participants in their efforts to help their fellow veteran peers.”
The donation drives will be held on August 3rd and 4th from 4:00–5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, August 5th from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
